Our Founder and Staff

Darlene Large (pictured at right with husband, Bruce) is the president and founder of HOINA. Darlene donates all of her time in managing all operations—spending half of the year in India and half in the United States.  The Pennsylvania State University has bestowed upon Darlene its Distinguished Alumni Award and its College of Education Alumna Award. Rotary International has named her an Honorary Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow and has given her its Leadership Award. She has been given the Woman of the Year Award by Soroptimists Clubs and presented the South Asian Orthopedic Association Lifetime Achievement Award, among other honors.

HOINA is committed to using the funds entrusted to us to the greatest benefit of our children. The United States office is staffed by volunteers to ensure that donations go toward helping children in need. All staff members in India are native Indians, consistent with HOINA's commitment to preserving the local culture and boosting the local economy.
