August 1, 2010

Darlene returned to India the end of June. The summer has been unusually hot and wet even for India. With all the interruptions in electrical service, it is difficult to even get through her emails.

The project to replace the windows at the girls’ home is underway. They removed the termite infested windows in Darlene’s apartment and then realized they did not have the right size for the replacements. With open spaces where the windows should be, the birds can come in anytime they want. Still Darlene never seems to lose her enthusiasm for India.

The Penn State students arrived safely and jumped right into life at HOINA. They love India, the food, and all the children. There are six women and four men in the group this year.

    Dear Mr. Midha,
I was in Chennai last week on my way home to the States. I wondered about everyone at Rotary. How is Sridhar. The last time I spoke to him he had taken a fall in the bathroom and was really in bad straights. How is everyone at the club?

HOINA is wonderful. I am told by the child welfare director that there is nothing like us in Andhra and probably in all of India. You must come and see. It is like a resort.

I will be back in early January and would love to see you all. In the meantime you are welcome to come to HOINA in Kothavalesa near Visak. You can contact our general manager Anand. His email is

I came home on Monday night and Tuesday morning drove to Pennsylvania to the university for meetings. I was home for only a few hours so am out of the loop. Please feel free to visit us. One guest room has 4 beds, another has 3 beds, the third one has two double beds and the fourth has 2 single beds but we could put in a third one. Then there is an apartment with two beds on the 2nd floor.
As you can see a number of the Rotarians can sleep over with us.

You can contact Anand, take a train to Visak and our van can meet you and bring you to our home.
    Enjoy yourself.
Love and warm regards to you and all.
