Yellapu Lalitha (OK-252)

Lalitha’s parents were married in an arranged marriage. Her father fell from a palm tree he was cutting and was killed. Lalitha’s mother approached HOINA and asked us to care for her.

Lalitha’s favorite animal is an elephant.  Her favorite color is red.  She likes skipping, and her favorite food is Dhum Briyani. She is studying at the government school in Mangalapam, and would like to be a doctor when she is grown.

Janaki’s parents were married in an arranged marriage. Her father fell from a palm tree he was cutting and was killed. Janaki’s mother approached HOINA and asked us to care for her.

Janaki’s favorite animal is a tiger.  Her favorite color is white.  She likes playing cabadi.  Her favorite food is Chapati. She is in the fifth standard in the government school in Mangalapam, and would like to be a teacher when she is grown.

Vanga Usha Rani (OK-248)

Kumari’s father was a Christian and her mother a Muslim. Their parents did not approve of the marriage and disassociated from them. Her father was an alcoholic and was physically abusive. Three months after Kumari was born, her mother left with another man. Kumari’s father ignored her, so the grandmother tried to care for her, but could not. The parent of another HOINA student noticed their condition, and brought Kumari to HOINA.

Kumari’s favorite animal is a cat.  Her favorite color is white.  She likes playing with a ball. She is in second standard in the government school in Darivadi Kothapalem, and would like to be  doctor when she is grown.

Family Background: Pavan’s parents married through an arranged marriage in 2005. They had a daughter, Manasa, in 2006, and Pavan was born in 2007. Shortly after Pavan’s birth, his father became ill and died of cancer in 2008. Pavan’s mother, Lakshmi, moved with her children to live with her parents and began doing labor in the fields, but the wage for this work was very small and she could not support her children. In 2009, Pavan and his sister Manasa were admitted to HOINA.

Pavan has brown eyes, and is described as very smiley and active by the HOINA staff.

Family Background: Muttu’s parents were married in 1997. Unfortunately, Muttu’s father was an alcoholic and was abusive to his wife and three children. In 2008, his mother left the family, and his father neglected the children’s care. Neighbors took care of the children until the mother of another HOINA child brought Muttu to be admitted to HOINA.

Muttu’s favorite color is red and his favorite animal is a tiger. He loves the game of cricket, and has plans to become a teacher.

Family Background: Iswarya’s father is an alcoholic. Her mother struggled to care for Iswarya and her twin sister and brother, but her wages as a domestic servant were not enough to support the family of five. Iswarya and her twin sister were admitted to HOINA’s care in 2008.

Iswarya has black eyes and is an active girl with a lovely smile.

Family Background: Esther’s parents were married in 2000, and had their first daughter Mounica in 2002.  After Esther was born in 2006, Esther’s father left and started a new family. Esther’s mother, Mariyamma, worked as a housemaid, but her wages were not enough to support the needs of her two daughters. Esther and Mounica were admitted to HOINA in 2009.

Esther has brown eyes and an adorable smile.

Family Background: Anil Kumar’s parents were married through an arranged marriage in 1997. His father worked as a lorry driver and a field laborer. His father died September 2001 when Anil Kumar was 1 year old. After his father’s death, his mother struggled to care for her two children. She approached HOINA in July 2007, and Anil Kumar was admitted.

 

Anil Kumar likes cricket, lions, and the color red. He wants to be a teacher when he is older.

Admitted to HOINA July 16, 2007 at age 11 years, 3 months

 

Family Background: S. Varun Prakash’s parents were married in 1991. At the time his father was a Christian and his mother a Hindu. His mother’s family disowned her for marrying a Christian. In 1998 Prakash’s mother became a Christian, and in 2003 his father went into mission work in a remote area called Raagampeta. In January 2007 his father died from a heart attack, and his mother could not care for her two children. Another mission worker suggested she contact HOINA, and Varun Prakash and his brother were admitted in July.

 

Varun Prakash is studying 8th standard. He likes cricket, lions, and the color yellow. He wants to be an engineer when he is older.
